May 2010
February saw our annual appeal for funds. This
year the requests were distributed via the class
teachers to the girls. A sincere thank you to
all families who have kindly supported us this
year. If you have not received a request from
your daughter but would like to contribute, your
donation can be left into the school at any time
marked for the attention of the Treasurer,
Loreto Parents Council.
Members of the Parents' Council continued to
work on the school development and planning
committee, writing and updating policies on
inclusion of students with special needs and
student empowerment.
Mr. O'Shea attended our March meeting, enabling
all members of the council to discuss various
issues with him and vice versa. This proved to
be very constructive and it is hoped to have one
such meeting each term next year. One issue
brought up by the school was a request to
parents not to park on the double yellow lines
at the school entrance and exits.
The subject of camogie training was brought up
at the AGM and at several recent parents council
meetings. If any parent with an interest would
like to get involved please contact the parents
council secretary via the school or on the
councils mobile. Mr. O' Shea indicated that
future additions to the teaching staff might
help to alleviate this difficulty.
The Parents' Council, in association with Taste
restaurant, continue to provide hot lunches for
the girls at lunchtime. We replaced two of the
George Foreman Grills in the lunchroom this
term.
We sponsored sports prizes at this years'
prizegiving ceremony. Thirteen prizes were given
to girls who had represented the school in
sports from first year through to sixth year.
This year a representative from the parents
council was one of the interviewers for the
posts of head and deputy head girl.
Students from St Peter's College have organised
an Irish Speaking youth club - Cafe Ceint in St
Josephs Community Centre meeting every Friday
from 7pm to 8:30.
Examination time is here again – a stressful
time for parents and students alike! Again this
year the Parents' Council will have a candle
burning in the foyer throughout the examination
period. On the first day healthy snacks and
bottled water will be distributed to all
examination students as a little show of support
from all of the parents in the school community.
For any parent/guardian who would like to come
along and help, we will be in the foyer from
8:15 until about 8:50 on Wednesday 9th June.
Thanks to all my colleagues on Parents' Council,
the wider parent community, the school staff and
the student’s council for their help and support
over the last year.
Good luck to all students in your school and
state examinations. Hope you all enjoy a
glorious summer. See you all in September.
